My point of view.
As we already know, the same amount of energy coming from the sun to the earth is also leaving our planet. For a civilization in growth it is necessary to use the energy as the sun delivers to us - at as high energy levels as possible before it leave earth as heat radiation.
In order to explain my point of view, I will compare a AortaCity nation with a nation of today. In this example both nations have the same area in square kilometer and the same amount of people. The sun delivers also the same amount of energy to both nations over a period of time.
If the AortaCity nation has developed a technique to bind five percent more per capita of the energy as the sun delivers over a period of time into valuable substances, materials or transports than the other nation - it will give the AortaCity nation an advantage in trading against the other nation.
In other words, the future nations competitiveness will be dependent on how much of the nations available sun energy will be useful energy per capita.
Another way of looking at energy effectiveness is to study lifetime of energy quanta. You can for example follow an energy quanta produced by a windmill. Let us say the energy quanta will go to a battery charger in an electric driven car. When fully charged, the car is ready to use the energy quanta. As the car is in use, the electric engine use the power of the battery to accelerate and when the car decelerates the generator will recharge the battery. Perhaps you also can take care of the heat energy from the electric motor/generator to warm up the cars coupe. The energy quanta have been reused many times and have had rather long lifetime before it leaves earth in the evening.
If you want extreme long lifetime of an energy quanta you can grow biomass. Part of the energy quanta delivered by the sun to have the biomass grow, will then be accumulated in the biomass. The biomass can be stored as long time as necessary and later be used in power heating systems or be rot into methane gas.
Summary, for a nation to be efficient in the long term, it must be able to bind as much sun energy as possible into valuable substances, materials or transports and have intelligent infrastructure systems able to reuse the energy quanta many times. AortaCity is such a structure.
